Alright, Y’all!
I dont know what it is, but I really get my kicks from being organized. It’s such a weird thing, but feeling like I’ve got my ish together, makes me feel like I can do anything!
Things I don’t love? Administrative tasks that cause me to over-think when in actuality, they’re just brain-sucking my energy instead of propelling me forward. One of those medial tasks is the daily “Hey babe, what do you want for dinner tonight?” Ugh- the worst!
Let me tell you about my fail-proof strategy on how I over-came this daily question and eased my mind- and budget!
It all starts on Wednesday or Thursday, whenever your city releases its flyers. I head on over to my fav Reebee app, and I check out what’s on sale for the week. Sale items help me to eliminate the hmmmm, what should we make this week for dinner question. By basing our meals on what’s on sale, I save brain energy and money at the same time! Score!
From here you can start making your grocery list, or if you’re anything like me, you might head on over to your trusty Pinterest Page. Here’s Mine
I use Pinterest mainly for food inspo, I might see carrots and ginger on sale, and look for potential recipes with those two items in it- Hello Carrot Ginger Soup **Heart Eyes**.
So this is basically what hubs and I do to get prepared for the week. First, we make use of our iPhones. I love my iPhone and we have a shared notes page. On this notes page is a list of all of our favourite grocery stores. Now personally, I’m a No Frills girl. For my American friends, No Frills is a cost-effective grocery store that is a part of the Loblaw chain. The one near my house is clean, close and very fairly priced. We go there every week at 8:30 on Saturday mornings, I love seeing the same people working, the same early risers shopping, and I love knowing where everything is so hubs and I can get in and out quickly. We have this down to 20 min max- High five to that!
There are some things we dont/cant purchase at No Frills. As the name entails, its a basic grocery store, so on our notes page, we have included a few of our other fav grocery stores suchas Farm Boy, Sobeys and Costco.
At the bottom of our notes page we have the days of the week, and whats for dinner each day. We have been operating like this for about 5 years. He never has to ask what is for dinner, because our shared notes page has the answer. Whats also great is that I have all of the groceries for the week already in my pantry. Generally we eat all of the fresh foods Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and pantry foods or frozen meals (that I made on Sunday) on Thursdays. Friday is what we call Fatty Friday- more on that in another post!
Here is a look at our notes page. I’ve also added a fun worksheet that can help if you don’t have an iPhone.
We’re not fancy…
What do you do to organize you and your family for the week? Let me know in the comments!
