It’s Feb 1st And boyyyy was January a whirl-wind!
I work for a fast-paced company, and January is our fiscal year-end. Being new to the company, I anticipated joining the last quarter of the year would be a busy time, but I don’t think I mentally prepared myself for this kind of busy. Admittedly, I’m not sure I handled January in the best way possible.
Let’s take a step back.
Heading into Jan, I wrote out my goals and gave you-the readers, a look into my 2019 goals for myself. My 2020 goals really revolve around consistency, efficiency, running my own schedule, meditating so that I am more aware when I move off track, and a dedication to relentless time management, so that I can fit more execution in during the limited time I have.
That flew out the window last month. Le Sigh.
The truth is this, social media, including my Instagram, Youtube, FaceBook and this blog are not my career. I work full time averaging about 50-55 hours per week. I enjoy working and I enjoy putting my education to work. However, I let my career take over my life last month, and goals to myself got put on the back burner.
Please tell me someone out there can relate!
To take a step toward fulfillment, which I truly feel should be everyone’s ultimate goal, you need to invest in personal development. This includes health, education, prosperity, people and play goals.
Let’s reflect on where I failed in Jan.
Health:
Last month, I worked out five times in total. My goal this year is to work out 3 times per week. When I don’t work out, I bottle my anxiety (any other anxiety peeps out there?) and I felt it in my jaw, neck, and back- perpetual teeth grinder right here! I also made it a goal to meditate 5 times a week, I may have meditated 5 times in total. When I don’t meditate, I stop taking in deep breaths, anxiety spikes, and I’m over-all less productive.
Education:
I haven’t taken any formal courses this month, but I did finish an audiobook and started a second one called Let’s Get Real, or Let’s Not Play. It’s about managing your sales cycle, and it has been pretty impressive so far. My goal this year is to listen to 20 audiobooks and read 10 real books. So far, I haven’t opened a paper book this year 😐
Prosperity:
I hit my goal for money-saved in Jan, mainly because I was so busy, I hardly shopped or went out. When I did, it was with work people for Happy Hour- work paid. Celebrate your wins!
People Goals:
Although I am getting to know more like-minded people, I think it would be in my best interest to ask more out for coffee and create real relationships. I also want to get more involved in women’s organizations but I have yet to take any steps towards doing that. This will be on my to-do list by end of day.
Play:
Hubs and I like to try new things, and in Jan we really hadn’t. I think one of the things I’d like to try is rock climbing- I will go and book us a time slot for February.
Have you reviewed your goals for this year? I’m a firm believer that you cant manage what you dont track. This was a hard look back on where I failed last month, and where I need to do better in February. In all honesty, I’m feeling really motivated, and this was exactly what I needed to kick me into high gear! Let me know where you’re at with your goals in the comments!
